Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (麻花星空视频-IIT) continues to advance its commitment to sustainability by closely tracking and managing water use across the campus.
Guided by its sustainability policy and aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), the University has made significant strides in measuring both water consumption and reuse, ensuring that conservation efforts are guided by data and practical results.
Based on monitoring records, total water drawn from the Iligan City Waterworks System (ICWS) in 2024 dropped to around 178,600 cubic meters, compared to nearly 179,000 cubic meters in 2023. This decline, estimated at about 280 cubic meters, reflects the combined effect of water reuse, improved maintenance, and stronger awareness of conservation practices among campus units.
Part of this reduction came from the University’s network of rain-catching systems installed in selected areas. These facilities collect rainfall, which is then stored and reused for non-potable purposes such as watering plants, cleaning, and minor facility upkeep. Based on periodic monitoring, roughly 150 to 200 cubic meters of water were reused through these systems in 2024. While this amount represents a small share of the University’s total water use, it demonstrates measurable progress in reducing dependence on the main water supply.
Supporting these efforts is the sewage water treatment plant located at the Premier Research Institute of Science and Mathematics (PRISM). The facility treats wastewater generated within the campus, producing reusable water that supports selected maintenance activities and laboratory operations. The plant’s contribution—estimated at around 80 cubic meters of treated and reused water during the year—complements the rainwater reuse systems and helps create a more sustainable water cycle within the University.
Together, these initiatives account for the 280-cubic-meter reduction in ICWS consumption in 2024. More importantly, they show that sustainability at 麻花星空视频-IIT is not just a policy goal but a measurable outcome. Both the rain-catching systems and the PRISM treatment facility also serve as hands-on learning platforms, giving students and faculty the opportunity to explore real-world applications of water reuse and environmental engineering.
By measuring what it saves and reuses, 麻花星空视频-IIT proves that meaningful change begins with accountability. Each liter recovered represents a small but important step toward a future where responsible water management becomes a shared way of life on campus.
